Frequently Asked Questions
Why do your systems cost so much less?
My manufacturing costs are about the same as most suppliers but I do not have the overheads like commercial premises, shop fronts, sales people and
big marketing campaigns. Added to this I keep my profit margins low so as to keep my products available to more people.
How long until I receive my new hair system?
It will take around 8 weeks until you receive your new system. This includes manufacturing and postage time.
How long will each system last?
An exact time cannot be given but on average most full lace systems get a good 12 to 16 weeks before starting to show signs of wear. But again this
is an average and will vary depending on individual lifestyle and care of the system. Signs of wear include slight fraying of the lace edges(which
you can trim back) and colour fading. Because I live in a warm climate and am in the sun a bit I replace mine every 8 weeks now. Any longer and I can
notice the colour difference between my new and old systems. It varies and also comes down to individual choice. Customers generally replace their
systems anywhere between 8 and 16 weeks. I find around 12 weeks is average, but some buy new every month. Again individual choice and lifestyle
factors come into the decision. Through experience you will find the best for you.
How can I maintain the system myself?
I thought the same thing when I first started, but once you get use to it you will wonder why you did not purchase your hair this way before. You not
only cut out the monthly trips to the hair club but you will be saving the cost of them doing what you can easily do at home. See our
maintenance section for tips.
How often should I remove and reattach my system?
At least every 2 weeks. I do mine every 7 days. I find this is best to not only clean my hair system but also my scalp. Some places and people claim
an attachment of a month or more can be achieved. Believe me this is rare, and by the third week the itching and conditioner build up on your scalp
would be driving you crazy. Most customers, and long-term wearers of hair systems, will perform a reattachment every 5 to 10 days.
How long does it take to remove, clean and reattach my system?
This will vary from person to person and you will get quicker each time with more experience. The first time it took me nearly 3 hours. Within a few
months I was down to 1 hour. Now it takes me 40 minutes.
What is the bare lace at the front of my new system?
This is just excess. You need to trim this back, but leave about 5mm of bare lace on the front of the system(see picture below). This is so you can
trim it in the weeks ahead and remove any small frayed pieces and not interfere with the hair on the front. You can also cut the bare lace, at the
front to the shape of the contour you use. The lace on the sides and back can be cut within 1-3mm of the hair line.
Can I swim and play sports?
I do not swim a great deal, but have never had any attachment issues when I do swim. I also live in a hot climate and exercise 5 days a week. While
running I have also never had any problems. Just be aware that when sweating heavily the adhesive tape becomes tacky but re-hardens once you cool
down.
What about hair cuts?
If you have a shorter style you can cut your own hair to the desired length at regular intervals or go to a salon to have your new system
professionally cut in. I cut my hair with a "Robocut" every few months. Again for more complicated cuts it is better to wear your new system to a
salon and get them to cut it in.
For more information on "Robocut" go to the following link
www.haircut.com.
Although you order from the United States they now have a distributor in Perth.
What shampoo and conditioner do I use?
You can buy from the supermarket. I used "Pantene daily moisture renewal" for quite a long time and am now using, Nearly Natural Soy Shampoo and
Conditioner which is the best I have used. When looking for shampoo and conditioner look for the ones that are for dry or damaged hair and daily
moisture renewal. But to start with I would go for either Pantene (from the supermarket) or the Nearly Natural ones which are available in my site
shop.
Some facts you may not find elsewhere
Hair density
The hair systems are 100% hand made. Each hair is individually tied in. Think of it as more an art form than a science. So there can be a slight
density variation sometimes. If it is very noticeable please let me know. But believe me, from personal experience no one will notice the slight
differences that can occur.
Colour matches
For toupees, you send in your hair sample for a colour match of the hair on the sides and back of your head. The colour matches to your existing hair
are nearly always perfect, but sometimes you may notice a very slight difference, even on repeat orders. Hair is matched to dozens of stock colours
available, but you will appreciate the amount of various shades of peoples hair, the possibilities are endless so hair is matched to the nearest
stock colour and shade available. I myself get these slight variations but once my hair system is on, and blended with my own hair, any slight
difference is not noticeable. Remember, as explained in the section above "how long will my system last", you will get fading over time. How quick
this happens depends on a variety of factors including, amount of sun exposure, swimming in chlorinated pools, having water to hot when cleaning your
system (slightly warm is best) etc. Again individual life styles. The slight colour differences obviously are of no concern if you have a full cap,
as none of your own hair is visible.
My Experience
The biggest thing I have learnt is that because I am wearing the hair system I am far more critical of any slight differences than anyone else.
Little things I might see, people like my wife, family and friends do not even notice. So when I tell them and they cannot see it, then a stranger in
the street is not going to take any notice. Again it cannot be emphasized enough that the person wearing a hair system is always far more critical
than others, especially when you first start wearing one. After a while you will become more comfortable and not worry like you do at first.
